Be Ready for Anything
In January 2009, Donald Peterson will be embarking on an epic race through Costa Rica known as 'The Coastal Challenge' (TCC). TCC is a multistage footrace across 250 kilometers of Costa Rica’s tropical Pacific coastline lasting 7 days and he is racing to raise awareness for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Victoria (BBBS).
Donald Peterson, is a single father of a young daughter who is a "Little" in the Big Sister program. He has seen the incredibly positive effect it has produced in her life. At this point in his life Donald is feeling a drive to contribute to his community and specifically the children within it. By supporting BBBS with this project he will be helping them provide mentoring programs for children and youth, which enhance their sense of belonging, self-worth, resiliency and capacity to make healthy, well-informed choices.
He is co-cordinating the "Share a Little Magic Christmas Gala" to help put BBBS in the spotlight for an evening.
Donald's organizing partner for this project is Erin Smith. Erin lives in Victoria and is a Pediatric Registered Nurse. She has a passion for giving the children of the community the best possible start in life. Through her work, she witnesses first hand the many challenges, physical and social, kids face early in their lives. Growing up Erin was blessed with an outstanding network of mentors made up of family, family friends, and relationships developed through an involvement in community sport. Her hope is to give back a little by increasing the public's awareness of the powerful programs provided by BBBS. Children need, and thrive on sense of self worth and strength in order to make the hard decisions life throws at them. BBBS provide programs that offer this type of guidance and Erin is thrilled to be involved in a project that supports this initiative.
Currently Donald and Erin are looking for corporate sponsors to help with the Gala and/or to support Donald in this epic journey.
